Carefully hidden behind one side, I discovered a perfect bird’s nest. Then I eagerly watched to see what little imposter tagged its home on my wreath. It didn’t take long because as soon as I walked out the door, not one but often two small grayish birds flew from the nest onto the branch of the tree right across from my porch. Two sneaky little lovebirds made a home there.
My mother-in-law has seen her share of heartache throughout her entire life. And now, as I deal with my husband having cancer, her son, as well, she doesn’t waver or doubt. She holds onto the best outcomes and reminds me not to get lost.
The gloom dangles heavily over us, and just when we think it will never break or let us go. Beams of sunshine break through and hug each of our souls—The promises and reflections of God’s glory. Let us embrace them.

At some point, it all will cease. Somehow in pure exhaustion, I will find more strength. And like the power of a cleansing earth rain, my soul will have released toxins attempting to infect me. The comfortable silence returns to hug my heart. I remain still as I wait for the sun to break through with assurance and hope. I may even see the colors paint the sky as the rainbow’s promise returns and reminds me of its potential.
I could hear a reminder from God Himself, presented in a love language I could embrace. He used those closest and forever imprinted upon my heart to emphasize that I’m not in control, but sown seeds can turn into beautiful blooms.
Three words can help reset our sense of being overwhelmed and in despair. REPEAT with me: DO NOT FEAR! According to bible commentaries, “FEAR not” is in the bible 365 times. Is it coincidental that there are 365 days in a year?

We have to give ourselves those moments when the inner toddler is relentless. Let it go, and then remind ourselves that we must move beyond the infant stage and make the best of the current world we have.
